Stacy's Picks, LA Edition: Tender Greens
Joyce and I spent the last week of January in Los Angeles, meeting with clients and friends and attending Le Book Connections at Milk Studios (stay tuned for the winner of our iPad giveaway!).
While we were there, I discovered one of my new favorite lunch spots: Tender Greens! Joyce can attest to how much I love it; after we ate lunch at their West Hollywood location with our friend Nicole Frantz from Capitol Records, I could not stop raving about how great it was. It is exactly the kind of healthy, organic, and affordable restaurant New York is missing!
There are seven Tender Greens outposts in Southern California, each with their own set of daily specials that are updated regularly on their website and twitter (follow them!). Their produce comes daily from the local Scarborough Farms of Oxnard, California, and all meat is raised free-range and grain-fed. The restaurant is as organic and sustainable as possible, so upon leaving you don’t just feel well-fed, you feel great about supporting an environmentally responsible company. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable, with windows and a patio allowing the outside in: a perfect urban oasis.
I had a kale salad from the list of specials, with a side of brussel sprouts – both were great. Joyce got the Southern Fried Chicken salad, which I tried and can promise you was also delicious (and only $11!). I wish I could bring a Tender Greens to New York, but until then, be sure to go if you’re in LA.
