As a child growing up in Denmark, Svend Lindbaek could be found in his uncle’s workshop or grandmother’s basement taking apart anything he could get his hands on, “I’ve always been interested in how things work”, he says. This interest in the inner workings of objects coupled with a fascination of photography led Svend to a career of deconstructing cosmetics and capturing the delicacy of pieces. The discipline, focus, and beauty of well-crafted still life photography continues to inspire Svend Lindbaek, “I always say ‘I didn’t choose photography, it chose me’”.
Svend’s photography focuses on breathing life into tactile objects. With deceptive simplicity serving as inspiration, his work showcases the textures and complexity of the materials he shoots. His lens has captured the paints, powders, and creams of cosmetic companies including Clinique, CoverGirl, Maybelline, Origins, and Revlon. Svend’s photographs of accessories regularly appear in the pages of Elle, InStyle, and Glamour.
“For me it is all about craft,” says Svend; “every image requires attention to detail, from building a composition to creating a smear”.
