    Stacy's Picks: Lake Tahoe!

    My family spent New Year’s 2012 in Lake Tahoe.  Here are a couple of restaurant recommendations. 

    We learned of the Log Cabin Caffe from a Tahoe local, our waitress at the Manzanita, who said it was her favorite place in town to have breakfast.  Bon Appetit raved about their Cajun Eggs Benedict and others felt the same way about their Arizona French Toast crusted with steel-cut oats, so we rose early to beat the crowd and arrive before 8am – a new outdoor record.  They do have a call ahead policy to make the wait easier, at 530-546-7109.  All of the food is made from scratch every morning with local and organic produce.  David and I split the aforementioned famous fare along with some creamed spinach – and loads of coffee – while the kids had Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes when not busy making art with nothing more than a sheet of paper and a Crayola crayon. Good times!

    Eariler that week, my husband and I snuck out for a date at Tahoe's other foodie oasis, Christy Hill. Perched over the lake, it's a highly recommended, romantic spot for great food and wine. So romantic, in fact, that a couple actually got engaged just as we were seated (thought they were clapping for us!). The cuisine is "Seasonal California" with French influenced sauces, made with the freshest and finest ingredients. Though my husband David added it to his "Top 25 Dinners Ever" list, he failed to finish his leftovers. I found them, unrefrigerated, next to our hotel room desk the day of our departure.
